Cruz Bay Holiday Traditions

Cruz Bay Landing Christmas Tree
Each December, the iconic Christmas tree near Cruz Bay Landing becomes the centerpiece of the island’s holiday spirit. While the lighting date shifts slightly year to year, the first week of December reliably ushers in twinkling lights, music, and festive décor throughout town.

Families, locals, and visitors gather to take photos, enjoy the waterfront ambiance, shop, dine, and celebrate the season. With the backdrop of the Caribbean Sea, holiday lights, and the hum of Cruz Bay life, it’s a simple yet unforgettable St John tradition that marks the true start of the holidays.

Christmas Eve Carolers in Cruz Bay
Caroling on St John is one of the island’s most heartfelt traditions — especially on Christmas Eve, when groups like Sing St John lead the community in song through Cruz Bay and Mongoose Junction.

Expect a blend of classic carols and Caribbean favorites like “Mama Bake the Johnny Cake” and “The Guavaberry Song.” Neighbors gather, visitors join in, and the streets fill with music, laughter, and warm holiday spirit.

It’s a moment that perfectly captures the sense of community on St. John — festive, welcoming, and full of island charm.
