East End Real Estate Guide

Pristine nature and solitude abound on the remote East End of St. John where breathtaking views can be seen from almost every vantage point. With properties and villas at Dreeket’s Bay, Privateer Bay, Long Bay and Hansen Bay, the range of scenic overlooks is unmatched. Whether facing out towards Tortola to glimpse stunning scenes of the British Virgin Islands and Sir Francis Drake Channel, or facing back toward Coral Bay, Johnson’s Bay, Ram Head and beyond, this neighborhood is what laid-back island living is all about. As the most remote area of the island, the East End of St. John provides seclusion and a true feeling of being away from it all.

Given its off-the-beaten-track location, very few tourists visit this area of the island, so almost every beach feels private apart from the occasional sunbather or fisherman. The area’s pristine waters boast unmatched snorkeling given how infrequently the protected bays are disturbed by crowds of people. Plentiful, nearby mangrove forests support marine life and fish nurseries, which contributes to the splendor of snorkeling here. The East End’s plentiful protected bays are equally ideal for adventurous afternoons spent kayaking and paddle boarding along the island’s scenic, lush coasts.

Getting to the main town hub of Cruz Bay from the East End can take well over a half hour, but Coral Bay – St. John’s “other” city – is a short drive back to the west and features small grocery stores and a handful of restaurants and bars. Though grocery store options are limited and the town lacks a gas station and ferry service, it’s the tradeoff residents are willing to pay for the peace the quaint town offers. Despite the lack of amenities, there are a number of dining options in Coral Bay. To those you call the East End home, the gorgeous vistas and tranquility make the remoteness worth
