A day at the races on St. John can be a crabby affair. Though I have been on St. John for well over 30 years, yesterday I attended my first “Crab Race”. This one was held on the beach at the Westin Resort and was really a hoot. Children from 3 to 73 chose and named their favorites and hooted and rooted for more speed over the sand moguls. Names varied from “Lightning” to “Granny”. I really think the names make a difference as Lightning won his race and Granny never moved from the center circle. Prizes ranged from pirates “Treasure” to sailing trips and a free night at the hotel. If the cold becomes too much for you come on down to St. John and have yourself a day at the races on the beach.
