A landmark celebration, it will be 100 years in 2017,  the initial transfer of St. John, St. Thomas and St. Croix from the Danish West Indies to the United States Virgin Islands in 1917.  There is a fabulous site to view amazing photos from years past.  The photo above was taken off of St. John, circa 1957.
