It seems I have a new neighbor at my Rendezvouz Bay home. This ergret has been hanging around my house for about a week and seems very tame. Cats and dogs do not seem to bother him and I can approach within a few feet.  This is one of the largest I have seen and is over 3 feet tall. It has been interesting to see how the wildlife has changed on our small island over the past 40 years. Once Mongoose were abundant and now are seldom seen, at least on the south shore. Iguanas were once found only around the salt ponds but now are common around the hillsides. In my first 30 years on St John I never saw a deer but now it is not unusual to see several in one week.
