Why Work With Me
Merry's journey began in Down East Maine, where she spent her formative years before embarking on a southern odyssey that included a sojourn at Vassar College and a stint aboard a fishing boat in south Florida. It was a winding path that eventually led her to St. John, a place where the warmth could thaw the chill of Maine winters from her bones. In 1972, armed with a one-way ticket, Merry made her way to St. John, bearing witness to numerous transformations on the island (including the era when fresh meat meant a goat being butchered with a machete in the back of a rusty pickup truck).
Merry's early career spanned roles as a customs agent and in the roof repair and coating business, all while she embraced the island's unique lifestyle. In 1995, she joined Islandia Real Estate and, in 2006, took the bold step of becoming its owner, steering it skillfully through the challenging times of the real estate market until its successful sale to Sea Glass Properties in early 2014.
A luminary in St. John's real estate scene, Merry consistently ranked as the top producer in her field, and she generously shared her expertise, mentoring aspiring real estate agents along the way. Beyond her real estate achievements, Merry is an accomplished sailor, participating in prestigious races like Antigua Race Week and Rolex Regattas. She's also undertaken numerous voyages between the islands and the mainland, serving as both skipper and crew. Holding a Coast Guard 100-ton license for passenger vessels, she was thrice voted commodore of the St. John Yacht Club. Merry's zest for travel has taken her to far-flung destinations such as Germany, Quebec City, and even a memorable river cruise on the Nile. She has also savored the slopes in Aspen, Austria, and Chile during the summer.
Merry's commitment extends to the boardroom as well, where she serves on the Board of Directors of Merchants Commercial Bank, a Virgin Islands private bank she helped establish in 2006.
With over 50 years of island living under her belt, Merry possesses an unparalleled understanding of the intricacies of life in the Virgin Islands and a profound knowledge of the nuances involved in buying and selling real estate on St. John.
