Why Work With Me

Merry was born and raised in DownEast Maine and made her way south, by way of Vassar College and a stint on a fishing boat in south Florida, until finally deciding on St. John as a place warm enough to thaw the Maine winters from her bones. Arriving on St John in 1972 with a one way ticket, Merry has seen many changes ( in the “olden days” fresh meat was a butchered goat being hacked with a machete into chunks in the back of a rusty pickup truck). Merry worked as a customs agent and in the roof repair and coating business until joining Islandia Real Estate in 1995. In 2006 she bought Islandia and very successfully nursed it through the lean years of real estate until the recovery when she sold to Sea Glass Properties in early 2014. Merry has been the top producer in the St. John real estate for many of her years as a Broker and has mentored many a budding real estate agent. She has been an avid sailor, participating in major races such Antigua Race Week and more than a few Rolex Regattas as well as several passages between the islands and the mainland both as skipper and crew. For many years she held a Coast Guard 100 ton license to operate vessels with passengers for hire and was three times voted commodore of the St. John Yacht Club. She loves to travel and favorite destinations have included Germany, New Orleans, Quebec City, a river cruise on the Nile, skiing in Aspen, Austria, and Chile (summer). Merry is on the Board of Directors of Merchants Commercial Bank, a Virgin Islands private bank which she helped found in 2006.

With over 40 years living on St. John, Merry has an in-depth understanding of the how things work in the Virgin Islands and knows well the ins and outs of buying and selling real estate on St. John.
