Now is the time to pay your property tax (and last year’s too)!

Property tax
Tax season is here, but interest and penalties are not.

It’s true that we all despise tax season, but this year’s season just got a little better if you are overdue on your property tax.

Lieutenant Governor Tregenza A. Roach, Esq. announced Tuesday that he has granted a property tax amnesty “by waiving all interest and penalties on real property taxes for two months,” according to an official press release from the Government of the United States Virgin Islands. The amnesty, effective 3/15/2022 – 5/16/2022, states that any interest and penalties will be waived for any tax year as long as the property tax payment is received in the full amount.

“This waiver serves as a follow-up to the September 2021 Property Tax Delinquency Publication and is intended to assist property owners to reconcile delinquent property taxes prior to final collection action.”

To put it simply… if you owe back taxes, now is the time to pay up!

“The Office of the Lieutenant Governor is a front-line agency when it comes to serving the Virgin Islands. We want to be responsive to the needs of the people. This waiver is one way in which we can do our small part to help the people of the Virgin Islands,” said Lieutenant Governor Roach.

To receive your status report and take advantage of the 60-day amnesty, call the Office of the Tax Collector at 340-774-2991 for the St. John/St. Thomas District and 340-773-6449 for the St. Croix District.
