Lionfish hunters expand efforts to St. John and St. Thomas

The organizer of a grassroots effort by St. Croix divers to keep the Pacific lionfish population under control is reaching out to extend the program to St. Thomas and St. John.
“We are trying to get the program up and running over there,” said Joseph Gulli, who organized the St. Croix Lionfish Divers Search and Removal Program – now the Caribbean Lionfish Response Program – in October.
The group of experienced divers on St. Croix – all of them volunteers – go out three times a month on Sundays to continue a systematic search of the waters surrounding the island for lionfish.
